Aubrey Diller

Aubrey Diller (born July 15, 1903 in Diller , Nebraska , † September 5, 1985 in Monroe County , Indiana ) was an American classical philologist .

life and work

Aubrey Diller studied Classical Philology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln ( Bachelor 1925, Master 1927) and at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign , where he received his Ph. D. in 1930 . From 1930 to 1934 he taught Greek at the University of Michigan . After a research grant from the American Council of Learned Societies (1935/36), he taught at Heidelberg College in Tiffin (Ohio) from 1936 to 1938 and from 1938 as Assistant Professor of Greek at Indiana University Bloomington . In 1954 he was appointed Full Professor of Greek and retired in 1968 .

Diller's research focused on the transmission history of the ancient Greek writers, especially the geographers and mythographers. In 1951/1952 he was a Guggenheim Fellow ; 1961 followed a research stay at the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library.

Diller died as a result of a fall in the Morgan-Monroe State Forest in Monroe County , Indiana .
