Auchichbin Germany

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

#AuchichbinDeutschland is a social media initiative against everyday racism that was initiated, coordinated and implemented in April 2014 by the scholars of the Deutschlandstiftung Integration .

background

The ad-hoc campaign in social media calls on people with a migration background to document their experiences with everyday racism with a photo and to share it on Tumblr , Facebook and Instagram . #AuchichbinDeutschland wants to show that people who were born or grew up in Germany are not perceived by parts of society as “ Germans ” because they look “different” or have an “atypical” name. In addition, it should be made clear that Germany and “being German” are changing and that the widespread “ ethnic ” attribution criteria no longer reflect demographic reality. The campaign was inspired by the I, Too, initiative at Harvard .

course

Hundreds of photo posts have been uploaded to Tumblr since April 2014. There were also on-site campaigns in Berlin , Ludwigshafen am Rhein , Marburg , Braunschweig , Cologne , Aachen and Mannheim . In Heppenheim , the action was organized from the city for the first time.

distribution

With more than 4900 likes on Facebook , over 600 followers and more than 70,000 page views on Tumblr and a large media presence (including articles in national media such as Die Welt , der Zeit , the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Handelsblatt as well as international reports from Italy and Mexico ) the initiative is very successful.

development

In order to document the campaign, the Deutschlandstiftung Integration is publishing a documentation volume this year. People who care about the topic of integration and who want to defend themselves against prejudice and racism can still take part and also make a contribution. Specifically, 70 photos with the associated stories are to appear.
