Auda ban harb al-abo seed al-mazro al-tamame ibu Tayi ( Arabic عودة أبو تايه, DMG ʿAuda Abū Tāyih , also: Auda Abu Tayi ; * May 17, 1874 ; † July 22, 1924 ) was the leader of the Arab Bedouin tribe of Howeitat during the Arab revolt during the First World War .

The British Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence convinced him and his tribe to join the revolt. Its tribal warriors were instrumental in the attacks on Aqaba in July 1917 and Damascus in October 1918.

In his autobiography The Seven Pillars of Wisdom , TE Lawrence calls him "the greatest fighter in Northern Arabia".

Despite or because of an almost successful attempt at bribery by the Ottomans in 1918, Auda became one of the greatest supporters of Arab independence. After the collapse of the Arab government, he returned to his home country on the course of the Wadi Rum and had a palace built by Ottoman prisoners of war (Qa 'al Jafr Fort, 30 ° 17'34 "N, 36 ° 12'44" E). He died in 1924 before the building was completed.

He was portrayed by Anthony Quinn in David Lean's film Lawrence of Arabia .
