On the heath is a largely forested elevation in the Thuringian Slate Mountains northwest of Meura in the Saalfeld-Rudolstadt district . This is also referred to as "Meuraer Heide", probably an indication that the mountain was temporarily free of forests as a result of overuse by Köhler and Aschenbrenner . Meura was known in the 18th century as an important place for the oil trade . For this purpose, suitable medicinal herbs and parts of plants were brought in in large quantities from the surrounding mountain meadows.

The mountain is 668  m above sea level. NHN high and at the same time rises about 330 meters above the valley floor of the Lichte , which touches the mountain on its western flank. The Leibis-Lichte drinking water reservoir is in the immediate vicinity .

The Bielstein is a completely forested, northwestern branch of this mountain.

Not far away is the Quittelsberg (708.8 m), which can be reached via the “Heidehäuschen”.
