On lonely island is a German silent film drama from 1913 by Joseph Delmont .

action

The story is a classic love and triangle story. The rich fisherman Pieter Boes is very interested in the equally wealthy Sijtje de Jong, who in turn loves the poor fisherman Dirk de Vaat. As expected, her father prefers the wealthy Pieter as the future for his only daughter and sabotage Dirk's boat so that he cannot return home from a trip out to sea. In the end, de Vaat just manages to get stranded on a lonely, remote island. Meanwhile, Pieter persuades Sijtje that Dirk certainly had an accident on the high seas and persuades her to marry him.

Dirk is picked up by a foreign ship at the moment when he is about to start eating his only loyal comrade on the island, a dog, out of pure hunger. Years later Dirk is neither back and has to see that Sijtje has a small child, a daughter. He stands manly in front of the two when Pieter, meanwhile a rabid alcoholic, violates his wife. Once again drunk, Pieter sets fire on board his fishing boat during a trip to sea and dies in it. A rescue attempt by Dirk comes too late. Ultimately, he can marry his now widowed lover and take care of the child.

Production notes

The outdoor shots of Auf Einsamer Insel were shot on Marken in mid-1913 , the studio scenes in the Berlin Komet-Film-Atelier at Müllerstrasse 182, at the corner of Sellerstrasse. The three-act act was censored in September of the same year and premiered on December 5, 1913.

On a lonely island is not the only film that Delmont made in the Netherlands in 1913. This film and The Mysterious Club were made there in quick succession, although the outdoor shots were made in Rotterdam, Scheveningen and probably also in Amsterdam.
