Resurrection history
The Resurrection History ( SWV 50) , full title: Historia of the happy and victorious resurrection of our one Savior and Savior Jesus Christ , is a sacred choral work composed by Heinrich Schütz . It was created around 1623 and the first edition was published in Dresden in the same year .
The instrumentation is for six to eight-part choir, four viols and organ ; three violas , a violoncello and a harpsichord are optionally available as instruments . The text comes from the on Johannes Bugenhagen declining Passion harmony ; musically, Schütz was inspired by Antonius Scandellus . The work is in D-Dorian and takes about 42 minutes.
