The Resurrection Church in the Bad Oeynhausen district (city center) of the city of Bad Oeynhausen is the parish church of the Evangelical parish Bad Oeynhausen-Altstadt, which belongs to the Vlotho parish of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia .

history

After the city of Bad Oeynhausen was founded, a parish was established there in 1867. The area had previously belonged to the Laurentius Church in Rehme . Construction of the original, neo-Gothic Church of the Resurrection began in 1872 and was consecrated in 1879 . In 1907 the church was expanded.

From 1915 to 1949, Karl Koch was the second pastor of the old town, with Hans Thimme working there at times . From 1927 Koch was also superintendent of the church district Vlotho. During this time, several meetings of the Confessing Church took place in the Church of the Resurrection, including the fourth and final Synod of Confession at the national level in 1936 .

After the Second World War , Bad Oeynhausen became the seat of the military government for the British zone of occupation and the headquarters of the British Army on the Rhine . Large parts of the inner city were confiscated, evacuated and declared a restricted area, which also affected the church and community centers. During this phase, the Church of the Resurrection was destroyed by fire in February 1947.

After a few years in an emergency church , the community decided in 1952 to rebuild the Church of the Resurrection. The church building, redesigned by Diez Brandi , was built from 1953 and inaugurated in 1956. The emergency church found a new use in 1969 as a cruciform church in Vlotho - Wehrendorf .

Furnishing

Most of the church furnishings date from the period of reconstruction, the 1950s. The crucifix , font and altar candlesticks were made by Gerhard Marcks , the pulpit by Arnold Rickert . The choir window behind the altar was designed by Hans Gottfried von Stockhausen . The organ from 1956 was made by Paul Ott .
