Feudel
The Feudel , in Low German Feueldoog , in Austria (rubbing up, wiping up, cleaning) scraps , (scouring) Hader (in Saxony ) is a ( cleaning) rag , rag or cloth for damp cleaning the floor . The activity is called "feuding". The term is also used in sailor's language .
The Feudel is not a mop , but its forerunner, a coarse cloth that is usually wrapped around a mop .
Use of language
Numerous terms are used in the German language for "cleaning cloth", "scouring cloth" or "wipe cloth" :
- In East Germany , rag is the common name, in some East-Central German dialects , especially in the Thuringian-Upper Saxon dialect group , Hader is common , in the Erzgebirge Hoder .
In other regions, cleaning rags are mostly used ; in addition, it is common:
- in the Ruhr area : transducers
- in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland : Botzlabbe , Botzlombe , Butzlumbe
- in Hessen : Butzlabbe , Butslumbe , Potzlombe
- in Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria : cleaning rags , rags
- in Switzerland : Bodelumpe
- in Austria: scraps of cleaning
- in North Friesland : mop
