Augury is a Canadian progressive death metal band from Montreal that was formed in 2001.

history

The founding members of the band met for the first time in 1997. The band was founded in the winter of 2001 after guitarist Mathieu Marcotte had left his band Spasme and began to rehearse songs with other members, whose line-up often changed. A short time later, singer Arianne Fleury and bassist Dominic "Forest" Lapointe (ex- Quo Vadis ) joined the band and began recording new pieces.

In February 2002 singer and guitarist Patrick Loisel joined the band. In June 2002, drummer Mathieu Groulx briefly completed the band. The preparations for the first appearances followed. After Groulx left the band a short time later, the band continued rehearsing without a drummer until they found a suitable replacement in Étienne Gallo. The first album Concealed was recorded by Yannick St-Amand and mixed by Jean-François Dagenais ( Kataklysm ). It was released in 2004 through Galy Records .

The second album Fragmentary Evidence was released on July 17th, 2009 in Europe and on August 11th in North America via Nuclear Blast . Almost eight years later, Illusive Golden Age, the fourth album, was announced, which was released on March 30, 2018 via the underground label The Artisan Era .

style

The complex structure of the pieces is particularly characteristic. The singing is very variable, which is mainly caused by the frequent use of guest singers. Sven De Caluwé ( Aborted ) and Youri Raymond ( Cryptopsy ) can be heard among others . Some elements from jazz are also used in the works .
