August Bahrenberg (born April 20, 1878 in Stiepel , † May 3, 1933 in Bochum ) was a miner and politician ( SPD ).

He joined the SPD in 1903 when he had been rejected because of his social democratic sentiments in the mountain school for training as a climber . With a brief interruption, he was head of the Querenburg community in the Bochum district and temporarily deputy district administrator from 1918 to 1929 . One of his achievements for the community in 1920 was the establishment of the settlement on Lennershofstrasse , today in the immediate vicinity of the Ruhr University Bochum and the Bochum University of Applied Sciences . From 1919 to 1920 he was a member of the Provincial Parliament of Westphalia for the constituency of Bochum-Land .

His conviction later became his undoing. In March 1933 the SA took him to the Bochum police headquarters on Uhlandstrasse for interrogation. Here he met the arrested Social Democrats Fritz Husemann (1873–1935), Heinrich König (1886–1943) and Karl Stühmeyer (1866–1936). When he was arrested again, he was taken to the notorious Gibraltar colliery . Bahrenberg, who had a heart condition, died a short time later on May 3, 1933 at the age of 53.
