August Beule (born November 27, 1867 in Elpe , † December 24, 1923 in Ramsbeck ) was a German poet and master shoemaker.

Live and act

Beule came from an old farming family that had lived in the Sauerland for generations , and grew up as the third oldest son of twelve siblings. His parents owned a grocery store next to the small farm. August Beule learned the shoemaking trade after attending elementary school.

After his apprenticeship and traveling years, he settled in Ramsbeck. He married Theresia Kreutzmann from Berlar. Beule was not only a poet, but also an active promoter of village community life. He was regarded as a pioneer of Sauerland village evenings in the 1920s. His masterfully presented dialect stories and poems thrilled the audience. He was friends with Jost Hennecke and Franz Hoffmeister .

Honors

The August-bump Street in Ramsbeck is named after him. A plaque reminds of his work in Ramsbeck.
