August Clüsserath

August Clüsserath (* 1899 in Fenne ; † March 20, 1966 in Saarbrücken ) was a German painter and graphic artist .

Life

Clüsserath attended the elementary school in Fenne from 1905 to 1909 and then from 1909 to 1917 the Ludwigsgymnasium in Saarbrücken, where he passed his Abitur. From 1917 to 1918 he served in the Patriotic Aid Service during the First World War . After the end of the war, Clüsserath studied architecture from 1919 to 1926 and was a student at the Krome Conservatory . From 1926 to 1932 he studied at the State School for Arts and Crafts in Saarbrücken and was a master student of Oskar Trepte . He then worked as a freelance artist.

In 1940 Clüsserath went to Berlin and worked as a technician for North German civil engineering. From 1945 he lived as a freelance artist in Demmin . In 1949 he returned to Saarland and became a co-founder of the “New Secession” art movement. From 1956 to 1964 he worked as an art teacher at the two Völklingen grammar schools. In 1957 the artist became managing director and chairman of the new group saar . In 1966 Clüsserath died in Saarbrücken.

Honors

In 2010 the city of Völklingen named a street to Clüsserath.
