August Wilhelm Dankworth (born September 12, 1813 in Braunschweig , † August 19, 1854 in Munich ) was a German painter, draftsman and lithographer.

Life

Dankworth was the son of the Brunswick Commissair Dankworth. He attended a grammar school until 1831 in order to be able to study theology afterwards, but he decided instead to paint and studied from Easter 1831 to Michaelis 1832 at the Collegium Carolinum (matriculation number 2284) and went to Munich in December 1832. Here he studied from January 4, 1834 at the Royal Academy of Arts in Munich . He then returned to his hometown to practice this art. In 1842 he was employed as a drawing teacher at the Celle grammar school. After that he worked mainly as a portrait painter in Celle, also engaged in genre, animal and landscape painting. Dankworth married Clara Elisabeth Hardegen. He illustrated books with lithographs and also created lithographic portraits.
