August Ferdinand Ribbeck

August Ferdinand Ribbeck (born November 13, 1790 in Magdeburg , † January 14, 1847 in Venice ) was a German professor and grammar school director at the Gray Monastery grammar school in Berlin .

family

His father was the preacher and later Prussian consistorial councilor Konrad Gottlieb Ribbeck (1759–1826), his mother Johanna Wilhelmine geb. Hook was the daughter of the main pastor of Stolp in Western Pomerania, Christian Wilhelm Haken . His brother was the theologian Friedrich Ribbeck .

Life

After attending school at the School of Our Lady in Magdeburg and the Gray Monastery in Berlin (1805–1809), he first studied theology and philology in Frankfurt an der Oder then in Berlin . He then became a teacher at Friedrichswerder Gymnasium , in 1813 as a collaborator and then in 1820 as a professor. In 1826 he moved to the Gray Monastery. In 1828 he became director at the Friedrichswerder high school. In 1835 he married a daughter of Carl Heinrich Hainchelin , Auguste Hainchelin. In 1837 he was appointed the successor to the previous director Köpke at the Gray Monastery. In order to improve his health he made a trip to Italy in 1846 , he died in Venice in 1847 .
