August Fischer (orientalist)

August Fischer (born February 14, 1865 in Halle (Saale) , † February 14, 1949 in Leipzig ) was a German orientalist .

August Fischer studied oriental philology , philosophy and history in Halle, Berlin and Marburg and received his doctorate in 1889 at the University of Halle . Just one year later , he completed his habilitation. From 1900 to 1930 he was professor of oriental philology at the University of Leipzig . In 1900 he was accepted as a full member of the Saxon Academy of Sciences . Since 1943 he was a corresponding member of the Prussian Academy of Sciences . Its Arabic chrestomathy is still in use today.
