August Freund (trade unionist)

August Anton Freund (born June 19, 1926 in Miesbach , † August 27, 1997 in Munich ) was a German trade unionist.

Freund attended elementary school and the municipal grammar school in Munich, took part in the Second World War and then did an apprenticeship as a banker. He worked in this profession from 1945 to 1953 before moving to the public service in the Miesbach district office . In 1952 he joined the ÖTV , where he held several both operational and honorary functions. In 1960 he became secretary and managing director of the Munich-Land local administration and in 1969 secretary of the district management in Munich. After he was deputy state chairman from 1976 on, he held the office of state chairman of the ÖTV in Bavaria from 1980 to 1988. He was also a member of the regional executive board of the DBG, the supervisory board of Isar-Amperwerke and Bayernwerk AG and from 1979 to 1989 the Bavarian Senate . He received the Bavarian Order of Merit.
