August Frey (painter)

August Frey (born November 24, 1912 in Hochdorf ; † August 4, 1998 in Böschenrot, municipality of Meierskappel ) was a Swiss painter and graphic artist .

Life

August Frey graduated from Immensee high school . He then studied at the School of Applied Arts in Lucerne and at the Académie Julian in Paris . From 1931 he worked as a freelance painter at home and abroad. He created numerous frescoes , panel paintings, glass paintings and sgraffiti in public spaces. He also painted landscapes and interiors, created graphics and was a sought-after portraitist for many contemporaries. His works have been exhibited in Switzerland and abroad, for example in Basel, Zurich, Lucerne and Davos.

In 1943 and 1944 Frey received the Federal Art Scholarship once and in 1956 the study and work grant from the Canton of Zurich .

He married the painter Anna Blume. Frey lived in Zurich and Böschenrot until 1996 .
