August Greed

August Gier (born December 24, 1848 in Schönlancke , † August 18, 1903 in Hofheim am Taunus ) was a German civil engineer and railroad builder.

Life

August Gier was the son of an architect, graduated from high school in Munich in 1868 and was then a trainee at the Halle-Sorau-Gubener Railway . From 1869 to 1873 he studied at the Berlin Building Academy with a degree as a site manager . In 1870/71 he interrupted his studies for military service. After completing his studies, he worked for the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn until 1878 and passed his master builder examination in civil engineering in 1879 . This was followed by activities in light rail construction in Berlin , in the Ahr Valley railway construction and in the railway operations office in Cologne. In 1889 he became a railway construction and operations inspector in Cottbus and later took over the management of the construction of the Hagenow-Oldensloer railway . In 1895 he became government and building officer, head of the development and construction department of the elevated railway in Berlin at Siemens & Halske . For health reasons, he retired in 1899.
