August Glänz

Franz August Glänz , also Augustin Glänz , (* 1830 in Freiburg im Breisgau ; † 1863 ibid) was a German carpenter and wood sculptor who worked in the neo-Gothic style .

life and work

August Glänz was one of five sons of the carpenter and wood sculptor Franz Sales Glänz (1810–1855) and after his early death took over his workshop with his brothers Otto Glänz (1837–1907) and Maximilian Glänz (1839–1868).

In 1856/57 he made the frames for glass windows and benches for the prayer room in the New Palace in Baden-Baden . In 1858 he created a high altar for St. Blasius in Glottertal , of which only the figure of Maria Immaculata remains in the sacristy today. In 1858/59 he made the frame of the convent clock for the monastery of St. Ursula in Villingen , whose shield was painted by Wilhelm Dürr and whose work was designed by Lorenz Bob . In 1859/61 he created a high altar for the Liebfrauenkirche in Gernsbach according to a plan submitted in 1845 , for which Alois Knittel carved three figures.
