August Heeke (born April 29, 1881 in Emsdetten ; † May 13, 1964 in Niedermarsberg ) was a German, Christian trade unionist and politician ( center , CDU ).

Live and act

After school, Heeke did an apprenticeship as a weaver and was a textile worker from 1895 to 1911. In 1903, Heeke founded the local branch of the Christian textile workers' association in Emsdetten. Between 1908 and 1911 he also managed this part-time.

His main job was from 1910 to 1920 as a union secretary in Bocholt . Between 1920 and 1933 Heeke was district manager of the Central Association of Christian Textile Workers in Germany for the province of Westphalia . He was also chairman of the German Federation of Trade Unions (the union of Christian trade unions in the Weimar Republic ) for Westphalia .

Between 1926 and 1928 he was a member of the Provincial Parliament for the Province of Westphalia as a member of the Center Party. In addition, Heeke was a deputy member of the Prussian State Council .

Immediately after the beginning of the National Socialist rule , Heeke was dismissed from all professional and voluntary activities as an alleged enemy of the state. Between 1935 and 1946 he worked as a sales representative. He had contact with the resistance through Jakob Kaiser .

After the end of the Second World War , Heeke was a co-founder of the DGB and the textile, clothing and leather trade union in the Münsterland, and since 1946 he was the district manager of the textile trade union for the administrative districts of Münster and Arnsberg . In addition, Heeke was Vice Chairman of the Textile Union for the British Zone of Occupation and a member of the DGB's Federal Advisory Council in the British Zone.

In 1945, Heeke was one of the founders of the CDP (renamed CDU in 1946) in Westphalia-Lippe and the Steinfurt district . In 1946 and 1947, Heeke was a member of the 1st and 2nd appointed state parliaments of North Rhine-Westphalia as well as a directly elected member for constituency 80 Steinfurt-Nord for the 1st and 2nd electoral periods until July 4, 1954.

  • In recognition of his services, a street in Emsdetten was named after him.
