August Hermann Lange (born November 7, 1867 in Strehla , † February 19, 1922 in Zwickau ) was a German engineer and automobile designer .

After his school days in Leipzig from 1874 to 1884 and a technical training and work at the machine factory Adolf Bleichert & Co. in Leipzig, Hermann Lange completed an engineering degree at the Mittweida technical center from 1892 to 1894 . He then worked as a designer in two Leipzig engine factories.

In 1897 he moved to the Rheinische Gasmotorenfabrik Benz & Co. in Mannheim , where he met August Horch . In 1904 August Horch brought Lange to join his newly founded company in Zwickau, A. Horch & Cie. Motorwagenwerke AG . When Horch was forced out of this company and instead founded Audi Automobilwerke in 1909 , Lange switched with him. At Audi he again held the position of technical director and was appointed to the board of directors when it was converted into a stock corporation in 1915 .
