August Joseph von Bönninghausen

August Joseph Oskar Anton von Bönninghausen (born August 20, 1841 in Coesfeld , † May 3, 1912 in Bonn ) was a German doctor and local politician.

August von Bönninghausen was born as the son of the married couple Clemens August Franz von Bönninghausen and Clara Agnes Henrica Rothmann and grew up with a sister and three brothers, including Julius (member of the Prussian House of Representatives). After studying medicine, he settled in Bocholt as a doctor in 1865 and over the years became known as "Unsen olden Raot". He not only helped with medicines and prescriptions, but also gave consolation and help to many with his human warmth, sometimes without issuing an invoice. In the wars of 1864 , 1866 and 1870/1871 he had won several awards. In recognition of his services, the Upper President of the Province of Westphalia awarded him the title of Medical Councilor . In the city council of Bocholt he represented the national liberal direction from 1892 to 1909. On October 10, 1961, the city of Bocholt named "Bönninghausenweg" after him. His son Hermann was a participant in the Olympic Games in 1908 and 1912 .
