August Kazimierz Sułkowski (born November 15, 1729 in Dresden , † January 7, 1786 in Leszno ) was a Polish politician and general.

Life

He came from the Polish noble family Sułkowski . His father was the minister and general Aleksander Józef Sułkowski . His mother was Maria Franziska, baroness von Stein zu Jettingen. In 1766 he married Louise, daughter of the Grand Chamberlain of Lithuania Johann Mniszech. The marriage did not have any children. Instead, he promoted his nephew Jozef Sułkowski before disinheriting him because of political conflicts.

Sulkowski followed his father as Duke of Bilitz in Upper Silesia. He was also ordinate of the ordinate of Rydzyna, established in gratitude for the services rendered by the Sulkowski family to the Polish state .

Sulkowski fought against Prussia in the Seven Years' War . He was the royal chamberlain and president of the Perpetual Council. Between 1775 and 1776 he was Marshal of the Sejm . Furthermore, he was an imperial real secret council. He was Voivode of Gniezno from 1768 to 1775 , of Posen from 1775 and Lieutenant General of the Army of the Crown from 1778. He was also in command of the infantry regiment he had set up himself. He founded various military schools for poor nobles. In addition to his work for the Polish state, he has also regularly accepted money from Russia.

He completed the expansion of the Rydzyna Castle started by his father. He equips this in the French style. In addition to a theater, it also had a picture gallery. Through various measures he tried to improve the economic situation of the city of Rydzyna . He was also the founder of Fideikommiss the Sulkowski family.
