Johann Christoph Marci (also: Marzi ; * August 6, 1614 in Leipzig ; † September 6, 1672 in Hirschfeld , Niederhessen ) was a German lawyer and Saxon politician.

Life

The son of the notary Christoph Marci from Neustadt in Saxony († September 19, 1618 in Leipzig) and his wife Anna († October 31, 1633 in Leipzig), the daughter of the Leipzig goldsmith Peter Cramer and his wife NN. Schilter, was entrusted to his godfather Johann Cramer for training after the early death of his father. He made sure that the young Johann Christoph got a private tutor at the age of four. After his uncle's death, he returned to his mother, who sent him to the Leipzig Nikolaischule and subsequently enabled him to study philosophical sciences at the University of Leipzig .

Here he obtained the lowest academic degree of a baccalaureus in 1630 , advanced to a master's degree in philosophy in 1634 and traveled to Holland , Denmark , Rostock and Hamburg in 1639 , where he continued his education at the universities there. 1644 he went to the University of Strasbourg , where he three years graduated in law and policy and on March 28, 1644 Doctor doctorate of rights. He then traveled to other cities and was tutor of some noble sons, with whom he also completed educational trips that also took him to Luxembourg, England and France.

In 1647 he returned to Leipzig, first became a trainee and in 1649 an assessor at the Leipzig Schöppenstuhl and gave private lectures at Leipzig University. In 1653, Duke Christian von Sachsen Merseburg appointed him court counselor. A year later he became assessor at the Leipzig court and in 1657 privy councilor and chancellor of Duke Christian von Sachsen-Merseburg. In 1661 he was released from his work at the Leipzig Schöppenstuhl and moved to Merseburg. But in 1666, Elector Johann Georg II of Saxony appointed him to the Saxon Electoral Council of Appeal; when he returned to Leipzig, he took over the position of senior at the Leipzig Schöppenstuhl.

Marci, who had lost his extensive library and possessions in the great fire in Merseburg in 1662, suffered a heart attack on his return from a cure in Bad Schwalbach , which was associated with one-sided paralysis. Therefore he was brought to Hirschfeld to receive medical care. There he suffered an epileptic fit and died. His body was transferred to his hometown, where he was buried on September 20, 1672 in the Paulinerkirche in Leipzig .
