August Krohn

August Krohn (born July 29, 1840 in Brusendorf , Teltow district , † February 27, 1889 in Wiesbaden ) was a German historian of philosophy .

Life

August Krohn studied philosophy, history and classical philology at Berlin University and from 1867 worked as a teacher at the Knight Academy in Brandenburg Cathedral . Besides the work he qualified for an academic career: in 1870 his doctorate he attended the University of Leipzig Dr. phil., In 1875 he completed his habilitation at the University of Halle for philosophy. His research focus was the Platonic philosophy, the development and reception of which he followed with Aristotle and up to modern times ( Johann Gottlieb Fichte ).

Krohn taught ancient and modern philosophy as a private lecturer at the University of Halle for six years. In 1881 he was appointed associate professor. In 1884 he followed a call from Kiel University as a full professor of philosophy. He died five years later on a trip in Wiesbaden.
