from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

August Lindemann (born December 22, 1880 in Essen , † August 14, 1970 in Rottach-Egern , Bavaria ) was a German surgeon. He was the first full professor in Germany for tooth, mouth and jaw diseases.

Life

Christian Bruhn brought Lindemann to work as a surgeon in 1920 for “his” West German jaw clinic in Düsseldorf , which was by far the largest in the world after the First World War . Lindemann had previously worked as a senior physician at the Huyssenstift in Essen and operated on several miners with jaw injuries at the Krupp Dental Clinic .

After his habilitation , Lindemann was appointed the first private lecturer for maxillofacial surgery in Germany in December 1926 . In August he was appointed associate professor . After Christian Bruhn's retirement in 1934, August Lindemann received the first professorship in Germany for maxillofacial surgery on May 1, 1935 . From 1948 to 1950 he was rector of the Medical Academy in Düsseldorf .

During his 30 years of activity, August Lindemann consolidated the worldwide recognition of the West German Jaw Clinic. In 1950 he retired. His successor was Karl Häupl (1893-1960).

Lindemann had been a member of the Catholic student union KDStV Markomannia Würzburg since 1900 . Later he became a member of the KDStV Ripuaria Freiburg im Breisgau .

Lindemann milling machine

Lindemann developed a progeny operation in which the ascending branch of the lower jaw is divided horizontally above the mandibular foramen and fixed in the normal position. (This surgical method is also known as the Babcock , Lane , Bruhn, or Aleman operation .)

Lindemann developed a milling machine named after him ( Lindemann milling machine ), which tapers towards the tip and is provided with saw teeth. It is suitable for cutting bones and teeth and is probably still the most widely used bone cutter in dental practice today.

The versatile German dentist Kantorowicz , who emigrated to Turkey, also operated on temporomandibular joint ankylosis in Istanbul with the Lindemann milling with fat transplantation .
