August Rieger (born July 1, 1886 in Vienna , † April 22, 1941 ibid) was an Austrian self-taught landscape painter.

Born the son of a cabinet maker, was originally intended to be a priest by his parents , attended a Catholic seminary , but left theology studies prematurely and entered the financial service.

It was not until the 1920s that he began to paint landscapes as an autodidact. He exhibited his works with views of Vienna and Vienna's suburbs, such as Nussdorf , Grinzing , Sievering , Neuwaldegg , Hütteldorf , Klosterneuburg and Perchtoldsdorf in Viennese art salons.

Despite a lack of academic training, he was recognized by critics as a professional artist. In 1938 he became a member of the Hagenbund .
