August Wilhelm Zumpt
August Wilhelm Zumpt (born December 4, 1815 in Koenigsberg , † April 22, 1877 in Berlin ) was a German high school teacher and ancient scholar, who was best known for his work on Latin inscriptions . He was a nephew of Karl Gottlob Zumpt , studied in Berlin and in 1851 became a professor at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Gymnasium .
His work on inscriptions (compiled in Commentationes epigraphicae, 1850-1854) brought him in connection with the preparation of the Corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum in opposition to Theodor Mommsen .
