Auguste Marie Henri Picot, marquis de Dampierre (born August 19, 1756 in Paris , †  May 9, 1793 at Valenciennes ) was a French general de division .

Dampierre was a lieutenant in the royal guards and got to know and appreciate the facilities of the Prussian army in Berlin . At the outbreak of the French Revolution he became president of the Aube department , in 1791 Rochambeau's adjutant and soon afterwards Colonel des [[5 e régiment de dragons | 5e régiment de dragons]].

After the cannonade at Valmy on September 20, 1792, Dampierre was promoted to Général de division and contributed significantly to the victory of the French troops over the Austrians under the Duke of Saxe-Teschen through his energy in the battle of Jemappes (on November 9, 1792) at. In the Battle of Neer winds he commanded a successful division in the center under the Duke of Chartres on March 18, 1793, but was carried away by the defeat of the left wing. After General Dumouriez had fled to the Austrians, Dampierre took over the command of the Northern Army and attacked the stronger Austrians on May 8, 1793 to relieve the city of Condé-sur-l'Escaut , taking his right thigh with a cannonball in the evening at Raismes was torn away. Auguste Henri Marie Picot, marquis de Dampierre died of his injuries the following day.
