Augustin-Alexandre Dumont or Auguste Dumont (born August 14, 1801 in Paris , † January 28, 1884 there ) was a French sculptor .

Augustin-Alexandre was the eldest son of three children of the artist couple, Jacques-Edme Dumont (1761–1844) and Marie Louise Elisabeth Curton. His younger sister Jeanne Louise (1804–1875) was a well-known pianist . The family lived in the newly founded artists' settlement on the Sorbonne and Augustin-Alexandre grew up in a liberal and cultural environment. His father recognized his son's talent early on and urgently advised him to study in Paris. He enrolled at the renowned École des Beaux-Arts to continue studying under Pierre Cartellier . In 1823 Dumont won the Prix ​​de Rome with a sculpture and thus a multi-year artist grant with a stay in Rome . For the next seven years, Dumont studied the Old Masters of the Renaissance and Baroque . After returning to France, he opened a studio in Paris. Dumont made extensive monumental portrait statues and allegorical figures for public buildings.
