Aukusti Sihvola

Aukusti Sihvola (born March 7, 1895 in Sippola , † June 18, 1947 in Luumäki ) was a Finnish wrestler . He won a silver free style heavyweight medal at the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics .

Career

Aukusti Sihvola, who started for the Hallan Visa wrestling club , only reached the top Finnish class in wrestling when he was over 30 years old. He weighed about 90 kg and could start in light heavyweight (then up to 87 kg body weight) or in heavy weight (then over 87 kg body weight). In 1927 he became the first Finnish heavyweight champion in free style. In the course of his career he won six Finnish championship titles in free style by 1934. He was less successful in the Greco-Roman style. He couldn't get past Hjalmar Nyström , Edil Rosenqvist and Onni Pellinen in this style in Finland .

Aukusti Sihvola took part in an international wrestling championship only once in his career. That was at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam , where he started in the heavyweight division in free style. He won over Edvard George from the United States and Edmond Dame from France . He lost against Johan Richthoff from Sweden . These results put him in 2nd place, with which he won an Olympic silver medal.

In 1934 Aukusti Sihvola wrestled in Helsinki in an international match against Sweden against Knut Fridell , who two years later was to become Olympic light heavyweight champion in Berlin in free style and was subject to this on points.

Aukusti Sihvola was Finnish light heavyweight champion in the free style in 1929, 1930 and 1934 and in the heavyweight division in 1927, 1928 and 1931. In the Greco-Roman style, he took 3rd place in 1930 and in 1931 2nd place in the light heavyweight division .
