Aureliano Pertile (born November 9, 1885 in Montagnana , Italy , † January 11, 1952 in Milan , Italy) was an Italian opera singer ( tenor ).

Life

For over 20 years, Pertile was considered the star tenor of La Scala in Milan , where he worked between 1916 and 1937.

Pertile's vocal talent was already noticed in the children's choir, in which he sang regularly in the local parish. From 1906 he studied in nearby Padua , then in Milan . Pertile's operatic debut in Vicenza in February 1911 (as Lyonel in the opera Martha von Friedrich von Flotow ) was a sensational success. In the period that followed, the tenor, who quickly became famous, expanded his repertoire and made guest appearances at various opera houses in Italy and Buenos Aires .

At the beginning of the 1916 season, Pertile was appointed to La Scala in Milan, which was closed a short time later as a result of the turmoil of the First World War . For Aureliano Pertile, this was the opportunity for a two-year guest performance at the Metropolitan Opera in New York . At the end of 1922 he returned to Milan and joined the Scala ensemble around Arturo Toscanini , to which he belonged until 1937. In addition to his appearances in Milan, Pertile has made guest appearances on all major stages in Europe as well as repeatedly in the Verona Arena .

Aureliano Pertile is considered to be the ideal embodiment of Arturo Toscanini's operatic style and its extreme emotionality, sometimes bordering on choleric, with absolute musical precision at the same time.
