From the offside is a German documentary by Simon Brückner from 2015. In it he portrays his father, the social psychologist Peter Brückner , who became a symbol of the student movement in the 1970s. The cinema release was on December 3, 2015.

action

Peter Brückner was born in Dresden and later taught at the University of Hanover. In the 1970s he campaigned for the West German student movement and became a leading figure. In some cases, he was even said to have sympathized with the RAF, which ultimately meant he had to give up his position at the university despite being a civil servant.

criticism

The film service ruled that the documentary would go beyond "the historical-biographical recapitulation [...] and convey the insight" that "not all contradictions can be resolved and a biography always consists of several 'lives'".

Rüdiger Suchsland said the film is a “tightrope walk”, partly because it “balances between intellectual portrait and biography, between contemporary history and life story”. “In its means” the film is “virtuoso and original”.

Awards

The film won the award for best German documentary at the 2015 Dok-Filmfest in Munich, where the film also premiered.
