With the encyclical Auspicia quaedam of May 1, 1948, Pope Pius XII. after his encyclicals Communium interpretes dolorum (1945) and Optatissima pax (1947) the series of peace encyclicals continued. In this circular, he called for public prayers for world peace in May. As the armed conflict over Palestine escalated, he also called for a prayer for peace for the solution of the Palestine problem. These prayers for peace should be consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary , as this could bring about peace in the world and in Palestine.

“As representatives of the whole human family, redeemed by God, we wanted to consecrate them to the Immaculate Heart of the Most Holy Mother of God. We want everyone to do the same, as often as circumstances allow, and advise that it should not just happen in individual dioceses or parishes, but in every domestic community. "

The Pope further emphasized that the Christian will for peace comes from God and also has his weapons, but these are primarily prayer .
