Invicti athletae Christi

The encyclical Invicti athletae Christi (Eng .: The invincible competitor for Jesus Christ ) on the 300th anniversary of the death of St. Andrew Bobola was published on May 16, 1957 by Pope Pius XII. released.

With this Apostolic Circular Pius XII paid tribute to the life and martyrdom of this Polish saint , who on July 5, 1853 by Pope Pius IX. blessed - and on April 17, 1938 by Pope Pius XI. was canonized . Pius XI. it was also who appointed the saint intercessor for the unity of the Russian Orthodox and the Catholic Church . In addition, Andreas Bobola is the patron saint of the dioceses of Warsaw and Warmia-Masuria .

Pius XII. titled the saint as

"[...] 'invincible competitor for Jesus Christ', who defended the Catholic faith with fire and zeal , who taught the doctrine of the faith as a teacher, who devotedly encouraged the Eucharist and passionately venerated the Mother of God ."
