With the encyclical Laetamur admodum by Pope Pius XII. followed on November 1, 1956 a renewed appeal for peace by the Pope. This circular is an exhortation and an appeal to “Prayer for Peace in Poland , Hungary and the Middle East ”.

Poland and Hungary

With great joy Pius XII. pointed out that Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński Primate of Poland and Cardinal József Mindszenty of Hungary, after a long period of imprisonment, were rehabilitated in their countries and could exercise their pastoral office again. The Pope expressed his hope that these events would bring peace to these two countries . He appealed to all Catholics of these countries to stand up for their pastors and to support the peace efforts.

middle East

With great concern he turned to the Middle East conflict and called on the parties to negotiate. All legitimate rights of the parties should be taken into account and the recommendations of the United Nations should be implemented. He emphasized the protection of the "holy places" and called for a solution to the refugee issue. He stated that war would not lead to a permanent solution and lamented the bloodshed and the destruction of the places. He called on the rulers to stop fighting and to work for a just solution.
