Coordinates: 71 ° 32 ' S , 12 ° 21' E
Austbanen (Norwegian for Eastern Railway ) is a central moraine of a previously unnamed glacier that flows between the western and central Petermann chain of the Wohlthat massif in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . The moraine has its starting point at Svarttindane and runs from there in a northerly direction over a length of around 20 km.
Participants in the German Antarctic Expedition in 1938/39 under the direction of polar explorer Alfred Ritscher carried out an initial rough mapping based on aerial photographs. Participants in the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960) carried out a new mapping on the basis of their own aerial photographs and measurements. They named it in connection with the naming of the moraine Vestbanen , which runs parallel to it about 11 km to the west.
