The by former Porsche -Staff Karl Rabe designed Austro-Daimler ADR is a car of the luxury class , which the automobile company Austro-Daimler in 1927 as a successor to the model ADM brought out. The "R" in the type designation refers to the new type of tubular frame that replaced the platform frame of the predecessor. As in the previous model, the engine was made of light metal with a camshaft driven by a vertical shaft.

The car had the reduced-power 6-cylinder in-line engine from the ADM 3 liter sports car installed at the front, which powered the rear wheels via a 4-speed gearbox. Front wheels were attached to a rigid axle and had longitudinal leaf springs. The rear wheels hung on a pendulum axle, which was supported on a transverse leaf spring on the chassis below. About 2600 cars were built by the ADR.

From 1929 the Austro-Daimler ADR Sport was also offered, which replaced the ADM 3 liter model and also had its unthrottled engine with 100 hp. Around 50 vehicles were produced by 1931.

In 1930, the Austro-Daimler ADR 8 was offered as the top model . The huge sedan, over 5.5 meters long, had an 8-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 4.6 liters. Of this model, too, only about 50 cars were made by 1934. Abroad, the car was called "Alpine".

In 1931 the Austro-Daimler Bergmeister inherited the ADR Sport model. Its enlarged 6-cylinder in-line engine with a displacement of 3.6 liters developed 120 hp. As with ADR 8, only 50 vehicles were built until 1934 and mostly fitted with special bodies from the Austrian cartwright Oeffag .

After the merger in 1934, Austro Daimler automobiles were no longer manufactured in the Steyr works , with the exception of rail and military vehicles.
