Austrocylindropuntia yanganucensis is a species of plant in the genus Austrocylindropuntia from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet yanganucensis refers to the occurrence of the species in the Quebrada Llanganuco valley in the Peruvian region of Ancash.

description

Austrocylindropuntia yanganucensis forms dense cushions. On the ellipsoidal, blue-green, up to 5 centimeter long shoot sections are elongated cusps with up to 1 centimeter long leaf rudiments . The one to four unevenly long, upright, light brown to reddish thorns are up to 2 centimeters long.

The bright red flowers are small.

Distribution and systematics

Austrocylindropuntia yanganucensis is widespread in the Peruvian region of Ancash .

It was first described as Tephrocactus yanganucensis in 1957 by Werner Rauh and Curt Backeberg . Edward Frederick Anderson placed the species in 1999 in the genus Austrocylindropuntia . Another nomenclature synonym is Opuntia yanganucensis (Rauh & Backeb.) GDRowley (1958).

The species is poorly known and resembles Austrocylindropuntia hirschii .
