Emigrant (boat type)
The emigrant is a type of open sailing dinghy that is used exclusively as a tour boat on the Steinhuder Meer . The name goes back to the early days of tourism on the Steinhuder Meer: At that time the sailing boats drove from the Schaumburg-Lippische Steinhude to the Prussian- Hanoverian "foreign countries" and thus emigrated. The wooden dinghies were built in round and hard chine flat-bottom construction and are 8 to 11 m long and 2.5 to 3 m wide. The gaff sails with a sail area of around 42 m² are characteristic of these boats . The skippers of these boats have teamed up for Steinhuder Personenschifffahrt . They transport tourists to Wilhelmstein Island and from Steinhude to Mardorf .
