The Steinhäusl junction is a traffic junction in the form of a motorway triangle and connects the West Autobahn (A1) with the Vienna Outer Ring Autobahn (A21), which begins at it. It is located on the municipal boundary between Altlengbach and Eichgraben near the eponymous town of Steinhäusl . Around 70,000 to 90,000 vehicles pass through it every day.

history

The Steinhäusl junction, together with the 13 km long section of the A21 to Klausen-Leopoldsdorf , was opened to traffic on September 24, 1971. The total costs for this construction phase amounted to 434 million schillings , which today corresponds to about 142 million euros.

In the years 2009 to 2011, the noise protection for around 800 residents was improved in the area of the junction. The noise barriers erected over a length of around 4 km have a total area of around 32,000 m² and are 7.5 on the outside and 6.5 between the lanes. The total costs amounted to around 9 million euros.

Since 2011, a new rest station has been built directly at the Steinhäusl junction, it replaces the Großram rest station, which has been closed since October 2012. The filling station was originally scheduled to start operating at the end of 2011. Construction was delayed due to problems in the soil stability, and the filling station was able to open in October 2012. The opening of the restaurant took place as planned in 2014. A bridge over seven lanes was built for the rest station.
