Autodeterminación y Libertad ( Spanish for self-determination and freedom , abbreviated AyL ) is an Argentine party that was founded in 2001. It belongs to the anti-capitalist left political spectrum and advocates anti-authoritarian socialism with elements of council and direct democracy. Between 2001 and 2005 she was represented in the Argentine National Congress.
history
The party was founded in 2001 in the wake of the emerging Argentina crisis on the initiative of the lawyer Luis Zamora , who was previously a party member and MP for the Trotskyist left-wing parties Movimiento al Socialismo and Movimiento Socialista de los Trabajadores .
The party achieved its greatest successes in the 2001 and 2003 congressional elections, when it received more than 10 percent of the vote in its main district, the city of Buenos Aires, and was able to send two MPs to Congress. Zamora ran as a candidate for the post of mayor of Buenos Aires in 2003 and reached third place.
In the 2005 elections, the party was unable to repeat its success and lost its seats in Congress. In addition, there was an emigration of some important party members to the Frente para la Victoria . Since then, it has only achieved values between 1 and 4 percent in elections in the city of Buenos Aires.
Content profile
The party considers the current economic order in Argentina to be unjust; it is to be overcome by a revolution, which, however, is to be achieved on the basis of the Argentine constitution and democracy. Unlike other Trotskyist parties in Argentina, it rejects party leadership of the revolution.
According to a basic text written by Luis Zamora and Noemí Oliveto, Autodeterminación y Libertad calls for overcoming western-style capitalism and the current political system in Argentina . The existing order is to be replaced by socialism with extensive participation of the population in basic councils ( asambleas ) with an imperative mandate and rotation principle. The intended reform of the Argentine state should not be dictated by the party, but should develop from experience with direct democratic decision-making structures. The party advocates self-determination for the countries and regions and rejects economic globalization in its current form because it recognizes imperialist features in it.
