Autoneum (legally Autoneum Holding AG ) is an internationally active Swiss automotive supplier with headquarters in Winterthur , Switzerland. Autoneum is one of the leading manufacturers of acoustic and heat protection for vehicles; the company supplies the majority of the world's automobile manufacturers.

history
In 1984 the Rieter machine works took over Unikeller AG , a manufacturer of sound and heat insulation systems for vehicles. This laid the foundation for Autoneum. Unikeller AG became a wholly owned subsidiary of Rieter Holding AG.
In 1988 the CHG Group in Rossdorf-Gundernhausen (Germany), AGFK in Sevelen (Switzerland) and the Sipavel company in Sétubal (Portugal) followed.
In 1994 the company Firth Furnishings UK , a manufacturer of vehicle carpets, was taken over and one year later, in 1995, the vehicle component manufacturer Globe Industries , USA. With this acquisition, Rieter also took over the UGN joint venture, a joint venture between Globe Industries and the Japanese automotive supplier Nihon Tokushu Toryo (Nittoku). In the same year the Unikeller division was renamed Rieter Automotive Systems .
In 1996/97 the last vehicle component manufacturers from Italy and Brazil were bought and a joint venture with Magee Carpet Company was founded in the USA.
In 2003, a further joint venture with Nittoku was established in China, and in 2008 a development and acoustics center was opened in Shanghai, China.
In March 2011, the Board of Directors decided to split up the Rieter Group. The Rieter Automotive Systems division was made independent in May 2011 and registered as a listed automotive supplier under the name Autoneum .
In 2012, Autoneum and the Japanese automotive suppliers Nittoku and Toyota Boshoku agreed to collaborate on the development of interior systems for hybrid vehicles.
In 2013, Autoneum opened a plant in Ryazan, Russia . In the course of adapting production capacities to the lower demand on the European market, the Italian subsidiary Autoneum Italy with plants in Desio, Pignataro, Santhià and Vicolungo was sold in the same year. Also in 2013, Autoneum participated in a joint venture between long-term partner Nittoku and the Chinese supplier TGPM Automotive Industry Group (TGPM). The Wuhan Nittoku Autoneum Sound-Proof joint venture maintains a production site for heat and acoustic management components in Wuhan, China .
In June 2015, the Federal Cartel Office fined five automotive suppliers, including the German subsidiary Autoneum, fines of EUR 75 million for illegal price fixing between 2005 and 2013. Autoneum paid a fine of EUR 29.5 million.
In 2016, a new Autoneum plant went into operation in San Luis Potosí, Mexico . Together with production facilities in Hermosillo and Silao (location of the subsidiary UGN), the company now has three plants in Mexico and a sales and development office in Mexico City . Another plant in San Luis Potosí has been under construction since 2016 and is scheduled to start production in 2018.
In 2017, Autoneum founded the “Competence Center New Mobility” in Sunnyvale , California , USA, where, among other things, acoustic and thermal management components for electric vehicles are to be developed. In the same year the company opened its new North American headquarters in Novi (Michigan) , USA. Autoneum expanded the existing cooperation with Nittoku and Toyota Boshoku with a joint venture for research and development in vehicle acoustics, also founded in 2017.
With new plants in Yantai , Changsha , Pinghu and Shenyang Tiexi , the automotive supplier expanded its production capacities in China to a total of ten locations in 2017 and 2018. In 2018, Autoneum continued to open a production facility in Komárom , Hungary. The plant manufactures lightweight components for acoustic and thermal management and is the company's sixth Eastern European production site.
Products
Autoneum develops and produces lightweight components for acoustic and thermal management in motor vehicles. These include, among other things, engine encapsulation, carpet systems and bulkhead insulation for the vehicle interior, underbody systems, wheel arch linings and heat shields as well as noise-absorbing body components.
