The street is named after the former colonial power Portugal , with whom East Timor is now a close friend. The name already existed in colonial times. After the Indonesian occupation (1975-1999), Avenida de Portugal was extended to the following Avenida Salazar in the east as far as the Motael district . In 2015 this section was renamed Avenida de Motael .

course

The Avenida de Portugal runs along the Dilis coast. On the north side there is a beach where fishing boats are often moored. Avenida de Portugal begins west of the center of Dilis, after the Motael lighthouse (in Suco Motael , Vera Cruz administrative office ), on the corner of Rua dos Direitos Humanos , as a continuation of Avenida de Motael . The Embassy of the Philippines is right on the corner . The next street from the south is Rua de Palapaço , on the east bank of the (mostly dry river) Maloa . On the west bank follows the Rua Ribeira de Maloa , the Suco Kampung Alor ( Dom Aleixo administrative office ) and immediately afterwards the Embassy of the People's Republic of China . A little further ahead of a small canal and Rua de Campo Alor follows the Japanese embassy . The next canal marks the border to Suco Fatuhada and soon behind it the complex of the East Timorese Foreign Ministry. Almost as big is the property with the buildings of the US Embassy further west in the Pantai Kelapa district of Fatuhada . At the Embassy of Malaysia, Avenida de Portugal turns south, away from the coast, where the Pertamina oil depot extends along the shore. To the west is the Suco Bebonuk . The Honorary Consulate of Mexico and the former Embassy of Norway are still on the last stretch of Avenida de Portugal .

The South Korean embassy is also located on Avenida de Portugal .
