The Maloa ( Mota Maloa , Ribeira Maloa ) is a mostly dry river in the East Timorese municipality of Dili .
In the rainy season from late November to April, it rises in Suco Dare and flows northwards. Here it follows the northern part of the border between the administrative offices of Dom Aleixo and Vera Cruz , until it finally flows into the Strait of Ombai .
The Aldeia Ribeira Maloa in the Suco Bairro Pite (administrative office Dom Aleixo) is named after the river. The Spongebob restaurant is located on Avenida de Portugal , which crosses the Maloa with a bridge at its confluence , which is why the river is popularly known as Ribeira do Spongebob .

In March 2020 there was severe flooding in Dili, which also affected Maloa.
