Avion Express is a Lithuanian charter airline based in Vilnius and based at Vilnius Airport , which specializes primarily in ACMI rentals and is, through Eyjafjoll SAS, a subsidiary of Avia Solutions Group .
history
founding
Avion Express was founded in 2005 as Nordic Solutions Air Services . At that time, the airline operated four Saab 340 cargo and passenger aircraft.
In 2008 the company was given the current name Avion Express . Two years later, in 2010, Avion Express was taken over by the French investment company Eyjafjoll SAS , which was founded by Avion Capital Partners from Switzerland together with other investors. The new owners decided at this point to work out a plan to move the operations of the company to the ACMI area. ACMI refers to an aircraft leasing agreement between two airlines under which one airline (the lessor) provides another airline (the lessee) with an aircraft, a crew, the necessary maintenance and insurance for the aircraft; the lessee pays for the hours worked and also assumes the direct operating costs, including but not limited to: fuel, airport charges and overflight charges, as well as all other duties, taxes, etc. As part of the first step of this plan, Airbus A320 aircraft were added to the fleet the Avion Express.
Later development
In 2011 Avion Express then presented the first Airbus A320 with the aircraft registration LY-VEX as a passenger aircraft in its own fleet. The LY-VEX was the first Airbus aircraft registered in Lithuania at the time. Two more Airbus A320s were added to the fleet in December.
A year later, two Airbus A320 aircraft were leased to the Icelandic airline WOW air .
In 2013 Avion Express successfully passed the IOSA Operational Safety Audit and thus received an IATA registration. The last Saab 340 freighter was taken out of service in March 2013.
Until the summer of 2014, the airline operated a fleet of 9 Airbus A320s and 2 Airbus A319s. In the same year Avion Express founded the subsidiary Dominican Wings , a low-cost airline based in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
In the summer of 2017, Avion Express introduced Airbus A321 aircraft to the company's fleet. A total of 3 aircraft of this type were commissioned by Thomas Cook Airlines and Condor before Avion Express announced in June of the same year that it had sold its 65% stake in Dominican Wings to the company's president, Victor Pacheco.
In 2018, Avion Express exceeded the amount of 250 block hours per day in terms of operation and thus achieved the highest in-house daily result to date; Avion Express flew a total of 52,500 block hours this year, which is also the company's own record to date and an increase of 27% compared to 2017.

Partnerships
In August 2017, Avion Express signed a partnership agreement with the Lithuanian Aviation Academy (A. Gustaitis Aviation Institute at VGTU). The main focus of the partnership is to give the students of the "Airplane Pilot" course and the technical study programs the opportunity to learn more about aviation and the company, to gain experience during internships and to work for the airline after graduation.
Since autumn 2017, Avion Express has also been working with BAA Training , one of the aviation training centers in Northern Europe, on a cadet program for pilots with little or no flight experience. In this partnership, BAA Training trains pilots to fill the vacancies for the Avion Express fleet.
