Onur Air was founded on April 14, 1992 as a subsidiary of the Turkish tour operator TK Air Travel and started operating a brand-new Airbus A320-200 just one month later . The fleet was supplemented by a further three brand-new units by the spring of 1993.

In 1994 the Ten Tour Group took a stake in the young Turkish airline and later took it over completely. With more solid financing, the Airbus fleet was expanded by nine more units from July 1995 and the establishment of a national route network began.

As of 1996, due to the increased international popularity of the Turkish holiday regions, Airbus A300B4-200s were flown in. From 1997 onwards McDonnell Douglas MD-83 and MD-88 were used on routes with less demand .

2000s

In early 2000, Onur received two more A300B4s and one A300B2 from South African Airways . In the period that followed, A300-600s , which were equipped with more than 300 seats, and later a total of eight Airbus A321-100 and -200 .

On May 13, 2005, both the German Federal Aviation Authority and the Dutch authorities revoked the airline's entry permit because serious defects in the Onur Air aircraft had been discovered. As a counter-reaction, Turkey then withdrew the German airlines' landing permits. After protests by the Foreign Office , the entry ban for German aircraft was lifted again. On May 14, the airline's entry permit was revoked by the Swiss and French aviation safety authorities. Up until then, Onur Air had been awarded a total of nine certificates by Airbus and Boeing for their maintenance procedures. In the period from 4th to 6th July 2005, the review of the airline was provisionally concluded with a so-called "final meeting" at the home airport of Onur Air in Antalya, in accordance with the requirements from the re-issuance of the entry permit.

In summer 2009 the owner of Onur Air, Cankut Bagana, acquired two more Airbus A320-200s. These machines have meanwhile been used for Kogalymavia under the aircraft registration numbers TC-KLA and TC-KLB . This was preceded by a partnership between Kogalymavia, in which Cankut Bagana had participated, and Onur Air. Furthermore, a company with the same name was founded in Turkey. The two machines were returned to the lessor by Onur Air in 2014.

Onur Air phased out its last five Airbus A300s in mid-April 2013 .

With the closure of its home airport Istanbul-Ataturk , Onur Air moved to Istanbul Airport in April 2019 .

The Bulgarian subsidiary Holiday Europe OOD received its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and its operating license (OL) on August 24, 2019 from the Bulgarian civil aviation authority BGCAA. For legal reasons, Onur Air only holds 49 percent of Holiday Europe.
