Kıbrıs Türk Hava Yolları (KTHY, internationally also Cyprus Turkish Airlines ) was a state airline in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus , based in Istanbul and a subsidiary of Turkish Airlines .
history
On December 4, 1974, Turkish Airlines and the incumbent Turkish Cypriot government each founded the Cyprus Turkish Airlines in Nicosia (Lefkoşa) with equal shares . The first flight took place on February 3, 1975. In 1976 Douglas DC-9 , Boeing 727-200 and Boeing 707 aircraft were leased. The first flight to London took place in 1981. In 1990 the fleet was expanded with the purchase of two Boeing 727-200s.
In 1992 the KTHY inaugurated its new company building.
The fleet expansion was realized through the purchase of a Boeing 727-200 in 1993, an Airbus A310 -200 in 1995 and one further copy each in 1996 and 1999. Long-term leases were signed in 2000 for three Boeing 737-800s in 2001. In 2002 the four Boeing 727-200s were sold. Two years later, three Airbus A321-200 aircraft were leased on a long-term basis.
On June 23, 2010, the company ceased flight operations until further notice. The final closure was announced six days later.
