Noble Air was an Istanbul- based Turkish airline that ceased operations in 1991.

history

Noble Air was founded in January 1989 by the Turkish entrepreneur Asil Nadir, who had interests in several Turkish and British tour operators . Flight operations began on March 24, 1989 with two long-term leased Boeing 727-200s , which were initially used on IT charter flights from Düsseldorf , Hamburg , Frankfurt and from British airports to Turkey and Northern Cyprus . From November 1989 Noble Air also operated scheduled flights from London Gatwick Airport to Istanbul .

The company put four more leased Boeing 727s into service by August 1990, with which, among other things, Amsterdam and Brussels were also served. From autumn 1990 onwards, the number of bookings for vacation trips to Turkey plummeted due to the outbreak of the Second Gulf War . The economic situation of Noble Air deteriorated as a result. Due to the decline in orders, two Boeing 727s were rented to Istanbul Airlines at the beginning of 1991 and scheduled services within Turkey were also started. The increasing competition in holiday travel and the insufficient capacity utilization of the scheduled flights led to considerable financing bottlenecks in the course of 1991, which could not be compensated due to the low equity capital . Noble Air ceased operations in December 1991. The company planned to offer charter services again from March 1992, but could not achieve this goal and instead filed for bankruptcy .
