Richard Lewis (* 29. June 1947 in Brooklyn , New York City , New York as Richard Philip Lewis ) is an American actor and comedian .

In addition to guest appearances in various series, two of his roles are particularly worth mentioning: He played Prince John in Mel Brooks ' Robin Hood - Heroes in Tights and the doctor Phil Taylor in the western parody Wagons East!

He has been nominated twice for comedian awards for his appearances.

Richard Lewis grew up in Englewood , New Jersey , attended Dwight Morrow High School , graduated from Ohio State University in marketing in 1969 and has been doing comedy in New York since 1971. As early as 1974 he appeared on the Johnny Carson Show. That was his first major appearance. Since 2000 he has played a parodic version of himself in the series Lass es, Larry! , next to Larry David .

He has been married to Joice Lapinsky since 2005.

In addition to his acting career, he is best known in the USA as a writer for various magazines.
